Congratulations to Medell Briggs, MD, MPH, MSHS, Chief of Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at UCLA Health, for being honored by Fierce Life Sciences Events on their 2024 list of the Fierce 50. Dr. Briggs-Malonson is a leader in removing barriers to health access for underrepresented communities. One of her key initiatives was launching the Homeless Healthcare Collaborative in 2022, which provides medical and mental health services to people experiencing homelessness throughout the city. Additionally, recognizing that more than 200 different languages are actively spoken in our Los Angeles community, UCLA Health continues to promote language concordance through comprehensive interpreter services. Dedicated to excellence and global impact, one oncology nurse from UCLA Health has found her niche in training others across the world. Kayla Kafka-Peterson, BSN, RN, a radiation oncology supervisor in the UCLA Brachytherapy Division, discovered a need for an extensive brachytherapy training program specific to nursing. After developing the program for her team, Kafka-Peterson has shared it with nurses throughout the world.
